Powhiri for Wairakei School Christchurch

Powhiri for Wairakei School Christchurch

In the morning we went to the school hall at 9:15 to welcome the Principal and staff members from Wairakei School in Christchurch with a powhiri.

We lined up and walked to the hall quietly we were the last class to the hall my friend Vedel said that is was embarrassing.

As we walked into the very quietly and Mr. Ramkalawan directed our class were to sit. While we sitting down Mr. Sean told us that there had been a bit of a delay but they had arrived.

As I was sitting down my legs were getting num. Then Mr.Sean asked the kapa haka group to stand up and then he asked the entire school to stand up.

While I was getting up I couldn’t feel my legs and I it was very hard to get up and I almost fell over. When we were standing up the Kapa Haka group sang ka pioioi e. When the song was finished we all sat down again. Then our principal Mr.Hendricks said a small speech to introduce himself and the school.

Afterwards the Kapa Haka group sang another song. When they had finished singing there song the Principal from Waiariki School had also said a little speech and a song with his staff.

After that the Powhiri was over and everyone left the hall.

A Bad Teenage Habit

Phones Are Like Life To A Teenager. If he/she does not have their phone they will go ballistic. For example : I have a 16 year old god sister, whenever she comes over all she wants is to go onto phones, computers and all those kind of stuff. If she can't go on the computer she will go onto my dad's phone and she will start moan and groaning if my dad doesn't give it.

I don't think that, that is a good habit it also annoys me.  All I'm trying to say don't think that a phone is your life, because it can't get you food and it can't pay for your rent and I can't so the people you love, as much love as you can show them without texting.

Poems : Summertime - Dark Places

Name: Kura

Summer Time            By Kura

I go outside to play, because there’s not a single drop of rain.
I always have such fun, playing in the sun.
My mum she get’s some ice, because it makes the drinks nice.
My dad he cooks a barbeque for everyone to eat, I always have a plate majority of it is meat.
Later we go for a swim while the grass is getting trimmed.
Then we get tired we all got to bed but I stay up and watch T.V instead. In the middle of the movie I want to go to bed but I can’t cause the horror is still in my head.
As I close my eyes night times almost done,Then I start to realise it’s time to for another day of fun.

Dark Places.               By Densa Waller

It’s dark and wet.
with slimy, slithery creatures in the deepest corner of the ocean .
It’s dark and wet,
with spooky shadowy shapes in the deepest, darkest corner of the forest.
It’s dark and wet
with soggy smelly sandwiches in the deepest darkest corner of my brother’s school bag.1.What groups of words are repeated in every verse?
  1. It’s dark and wet.
  2. with
  3. in the deepest darkest corner

2. Which words have the same beginning sounds in verse 1.
  1. Creatures = Deepest
  2. Slimy = Slithery

3. In what ways is the bottom of a school bag like a corner of a forest or ocean.
  1. The bottom of a school bag looks as dark as the ocean when it is night time.
  2. When you leave old food in you bag pests come and eat it like in the forest when animals die.
4.Describe what a slimy slithery creature is.
Scalamandre, Jellyfish, eels

Spooky shadow shapes

Ghosts, cats, objects that look like scary.

5. What do you think makes this poem funny.
It’s funny because whenever my brother leaves his lunch in his bag for over two days he gets a growling and most times it’s hilarious because sometimes he doesn't care at all.

The Food's Journey To The Large Intestine

The food’s journey to the large intestine.

Introduction:  Did you ever sit at the table and wonder what happens to the food that goes into your mouth?

While you are eating, inside your mouth your teeth is breaking down your all of food into little pieces. Then your saliva softens the food so that your food your tongue can push it back into your throat.

When your food has reached the esophagus, the muscles in your esophagus have a pattern to follow. The muscles try to push the food to the stomach, and by doing that one muscle pushes the food down while the other muscle relaxes then the next muscle pushes while the other one relaxes.

When the food reaches the stomach, the food has landed in gastric liquid and then becomes food liquid.

When the food has become liquid it is now travelling from the stomach into the small intestine. The small intestine grabs all of your vitamins, irons, proteins, calcium and minerals from the liquid from your food.

When the small intestine has finished doing it’s part all the liquid moves on into the large intestine. The large  intestine grabs all your water and salt and stores it.

When the process is done it is turned into poop.

Help The Trees

Hello everyone today I am here to talk to you and to convince you to stop destroying the environment and most importantly stop destroying trees.

Do you know how much disease is in the air because of your doing?  I'm sure that you don't because if you did then you will know how much kids and adults are suffering in the world because there is hardly any more trees in the world and they have less fresh air to breathe and there is much less fruit in the world growing on them.

If you cared as much as I do for little children and adults then you would have enough love to encourage others and yourself to stop destroying our forests.

Please as I said earlier, people are suffering because of the pollution that is happening in the world. If I had the right to stop all of this destruction then I would because although some people in the world call this destruction it's actually called extinction.

There were so many extraordinary forests in the world but now they are all just some abandoned desert all filled with sand and camels.

If you want to make a difference in the world then encourage the Government then  the best way to do that is to stand for the trees.

This term we studied New Zealand Native Birds.  We visited Tiritiri Matangi Island to see some of these birds.  That trip was awesome.  I created a flipbook about New Zealand Native birds.  I hope you enjoy reading it.
